Description

Electromagnetic Compatibility of Integrated Circuits

The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of electronic systems and in particular of integrated circuits (ICs) has become increasingly important in recent years. From the formulation of the product idea to series production, the integration of EMC measures at IC and system level is indispensable today. An IC designer does not only have the task of developing an IC according to economic and functional aspects, but the device must also comply with the EMC regulations and standards i.e. does not produce too much electromagnetic emission and is not susceptible to interferences. It is often a long way until an IC or, subsequently, an electronic system has successfully passed all EMC tests. With the help of the necessary basic knowledge in the field of EMC and some important design guidelines an electromagnetically compatible design of an IC can often be ensured very quickly. The aim of this lecture is to provide this basic knowledge and the necessary IC design guidelines as well as an overview of the most important EMC characterization methods for ICs.
