Skills Hub: Supporting the Automotive Skills Alliance

The Skills Hub is a key tool for the Automotive Skills Alliance, which is part of the Pact for Skills Partnership. This partnership horizontally collaborates on the skills agenda in the Automotive-Mobility Ecosystem, focusing on practical solutions to support up/re-skilling.

The Skills Hub is a smart catalogue of training courses, linked to the reference definitions of job roles and skills relevant to the sector (i.e., a digital version of the reference competence matrix). The platform also supports the issuance of micro-credentials for the mapped courses.

Supporting the Automotive-Mobility Ecosystem Academy (AMEA)

The Skills Hub plays a vital role in supporting the pilot implementation of the further concept of the Automotive-Mobility Ecosystem Academy (AMEA). AMEA aims to create a unique education and training one-stop-shop, which will facilitate a faster transformation of the labor force across the entire value chain. It will also enhance the competitiveness and innovation capacity of the ecosystem. More details can be found here.

Origins and Development of the Skills Hub

The Skills Hub was initially developed as an outcome of the Blueprint project DRIVES, which has been included in the European Union's European Education Area as part of the online learning resources.

The DRIVES project served as a Blueprint for strategic sectoral cooperation on skills among key stakeholders in the automotive sector. It involved 24 partners from 11 European countries and ran from January 2018 to March 2022. The project consortium developed a sustainability plan to ensure the platform's continuation and expansion beyond its duration, which was facilitated through a follow-up initiative. This initiative was the Pact for Skills, in which DRIVES was involved from its inception.

Collaborative Projects Enhancing the Skills Hub

Several other EU-funded Blueprint and related projects have contributed to the further development and integration of the Skills Hub, including:

  • ALBATTS: Supporting workforce development in battery technologies
  • FLAMENCO: Fostering cross-sectoral and cross-border cooperation on upskilling and reskilling across industrial ecosystems
  • TRIREME: Focused on transforming training for the resilient mobility ecosystem

Additionally, the ChemSkills and ECSA projects have supported the Skills Hub, enhancing its capacity as a strategic enabler of workforce transformation through collaboration, best practice exchange, and digital learning tools.
